Sasha Jaypalan, Founder of Grace May, an IT and Digital Recruitment business is back in Aberdeen to stay after spending 3 years in London growing his new company. Sasha, originally came to Aberdeen in 2007 as a helicopter pilot but a change in market conditions at the time meant he had to make changes.
Sasha walked into the offices of local recruitment company Aberdeen Appointments Agency and knew that this was the vocation for him. Sasha had always loved meeting new people and understanding what “Made them tick” and now he had found a profession where he could use his passion to develop a career!
Sasha joined in 2012 and after a very successful two and a half years, he was an Associate Director with the business delivering assignments to the IT sector in Aberdeen. However, halfway through 2014, Sasha began to see the downturn in the energy industry coming and he knew he had to reassess his situation.
Sasha moved back to London with his family and with the experience and contacts he had developed decided to start his own IT & Digital recruitment business.
Sasha started the company in a new location with no clients or candidates working from his kitchen table and these were not easy times: -
“The first 6 months were extremely challenging. It became evident to survive in a big city we initially needed to target a vertical niche market. The UK’s digital sector continues to thrive and everyone from developers to data scientists are in high demand, so we initially specialised in software developers, specifically those experienced in the “.net” framework and then developed things from there.”
“The business has grown organically through recommendations and the individuals that Grace May help like the way we work. We also found our vertical markets increased and for the last few years we have had a strong focus on software development, big data and now cyber security. Our focus is very much on relationship building and we really enjoy helping the individuals we work with. I was finding that I was being asked to help clients in Aberdeen ever more frequently and as the Energy industry is now moving forward and embracing the new digital era, we discussed coming back as we really missed the friends we had made and the clients we worked with. Aberdeen is trying to re-invent itself and will need new digital skills to adapt to this challenge and we believe we are well positioned to help.
Grace May delivers IT and Digital Recruitment Solutions to clients in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen.
